I’ll be excited about it when there’s some actual consequences for him out of it. Until then I’m just utterly convinced he’ll face no actual penalty for his actions.

This time it’s different. If this goes to trial he will be convinced with near certainty. The shit he’s accused of is incredibly serious, and it sounds like they have him dead to rights.

This time it sounds different. The republican strategy of discrediting the investigation/investigators doesn’t really seem to be taking hold. Unlike the Jan 6th investigations, the facts of this case is simple and those causally aware of the case can understand it.

If I’m betting, I’m still betting he sees no real punishment that actually hurts him in any way…buuuuuuut…one big thing here as opposed to his impeachments is that it comes down to a jury and is only about whether he did the things or not. With impeachment, it’s much more a political vote than a true judgement of actions.

I suspect the same but idk how you can bring someone up on these kinds of charges and just give them probation if convicted. I wish this guy would have just behaved like a normal person so we wouldn’t have to deal with this bullshit.

Well, he will hopefully never have the opportunity to repeat his crime. So any punishment will be about dissuading others from following his example.

Meh, CNN will have an hourly update on what trump is doing in prison. They just can’t help themselves

I think that hourly updates would be marginally better than the reporting of his rage posting.

Trump wrote he is “INNOCENT” and it was a “DARK DAY” for the U.S.

I appreciate that they kept the capitalization intact.

    • Former President Donald Trump indicted for a second time on federal charges related to handling classified information.
    • Charges include retaining national defense information, obstructing justice, withholding and concealing documents, and making false statements.
    • Trump denies wrongdoing and calls the indictment a “hoax” and a “dark day” for the US.
    • The indictment is unprecedented, as a former president facing criminal charges while being a leading candidate for the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential nomination.
    • The investigation is led by special counsel Jack Smith, who is also overseeing the probe into Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

Fuel for the fire? Or a bunch of smoke? I’ll believe this is the clincher when he’s behind bars.

For any normal person being indicted by a federal grand jury is extremely serious. Federal prosecutors have a 99.6% conviction rate.

Everything for the last ~10 years has been “the final nail in the coffin” for Trump, I’ll believe it when I see it too.

Indicted means a grand jury filed charges. Not just “accused” like “I accused you of steeling my lunch money”.

But like, formally charged by a grand jury in a court of law.

Another fun bit, they’re federal charges. Which 97% of the time lead to convictions. Feds don’t fuck around, they don’t leave much room for error. Now the question is whether he spends time behind bars. 37 counts on the indictment is a lot and I hope he rots in jail.

          Well, uh, the formality? :)

The accuses so far have only been discussed in the media, now it becomes somewhat real. Now, he might get consequences, mere discussions/speculations don’t do that. Especially for a guy who just couldn’t care less about integrity.
