I know that any distro can be a gaming distro in principle, but we don’t really know what changes we should be making to improve his experience, so that’s what we’re hoping one of the gaming distros can help with. I’m fairly comfortable with what I need to do for my daily use, but not so much for games.

I think he wants to try something different. He was frustrated that gaming on Linux requires “so much fiddling” (the kids today truly have no idea). So he tried installing windows, and that went about as well as you could expect (I did try to warn him, but he had to see for himself). So, he’s ready to reinstall Linux, and I suggested trying a gaming distro just so he doesn’t feel like it was a total waste of time.

Another happy pop user here! The business model for system76 is basically to make a distro that works seamlessly on the hardware they sell. Side benefit: their distro also works seamlessly on a bunch of other modern hardware, and they pay a lot of attention to quality of life features that make hardware customers happy.

Is this a rhetorical question? One very very strong password that is never passed to a third party, managing a separate passwords that do have to be sent over the internet, is definitely a better strategy. It makes 2FA redundant for the majority of standard threat models, and that’s why bitwarden includes support for those timings too.

That’s a good point, but I think it’s also another motivation to have some explicit statement of licensing: people who prefer a different license will know they should move to a different home instance.

Yeah, if the admins want to specify a license, sooner is better. The stackoverflow content is actually governed by three licenses, as they changed over time, and so they just list date ranges for each one.

Yeah, this matches my impression. Hopefully it won’t take 10 years! I was sort of thinking that an explicit statement of open license would encourage some people that it’s worth putting their content here.

I mean, it’s all very new, but worth considering eventually I think. There are some who would say that you own all the content on your server, so an explicit statement otherwise might not be a bad idea :)

Pyrex seems like a way bigger deal than instant pot, and those others are also well-known. Is this just a restructuring thing where they will screw creditors and then continue on? Or they will sell off the brand names to some new companies that may or may not keep the same quality?
