  • Does the image have a source?

Yes, the image has a source and everything is detailed in the lower part of the image.

Also I don’t think just revenue some us the only Barometer for a monopoly. If something has very few users but had really high prices that they’re willing to pay for them by your metric they’d be closer to a monopoly than steam

But that’s exactly why the EU classified Apple as digital gatekeeper: iPhones have a lower installed base than Android in the EU but higher spending.

Given the massive popularity of Fortnite, I wouldn’t bet if Steam has a higher installed base than EGS. People just prefer to buy on Steam.

  • Aren’t we all supposed to be against monopolies, steam needs competition

Steam is not a monopoly. The vast majority of PC gaming revenue is made outside Steam. Fortnite: EGS only, not on Steam. Minecraft: own web storefront and Microsoft Store, not on Steam. Roblox: I think it has its own storefront, it’s not on Steam.

Steam has an estimated revenue of 8.6bn out of PC gaming’s overall 45bn. It’s very far from even approaching 50%, let alone surpass it.

I don’t mind other storefronts. What I mind is people spreading the false narrative as if one of the most widely installed storefronts (EGS because of Fortnite) is somehow the little underdog.

  • Someone re-parented a variation to prevent it being public domain until 2040.

So the variation cannot be used. That’s irrelevant for a file format. Some company could, for example, patent a more efficient encoding technique but the resulting file format is still public domain. So at worst an open source encoder would need to be slightly inefficient because it uses the traditional technique.

  • IMO for this to have any chance against the Switch 2 it needs to be able to run PC games. Ps5 is already struggling with very few games (with most of them likely not working in such a handheld format), it needs something to sell on.

A handheld in development now will have at least launch-PS4 level of performance. Also, PS5 games just need to ship a Low Graphics preset most game developers make for PCs anyway.

  • I hope it picks up with improved KDE popularity recently!

No, sadly it won’t. Its time is over. There was a window of opportunity when Calligra’s good separation of UI and logic would have made it a good foundation for a web office suite and the desktop version would have benefitted as a side effect. That niche as been taken over by OnlyOffice. I fear its future lies in being a plugin for document viewer Okular.

  • Let’s go with your idea of what the topic is for a second

Considering that I’ve replied to another person with my explanation and got very positive feedback, I certainly know better than you. You’re not the person I’ve replied to. You interjected and then tried to educate to me what my comments are about.

have you considered how advertisement posts could appear in search results, hashtags, or the explore section?

Any brand account on a regular Mastodon instance would be the very same.

Or what if they decide to screw with the normal process and artificially inflate the number of boosts and favorites for advertisement posts?

Mastodon doesn’t have an algorithmic timeline, so that would lead to absolutely nothing.

Also, Lemmy cannot interact with Threads anyway, so Lemmy servers defederating from Threads is completely pointless. Irrelevant to what I’m saying.

Relevant to the comment I’ve initially replied to.

What copyright? Threads users gave it away when they signed up.

    Nope.

Your whole argument is predicated on the idea that a (personal) account on Threads is either owned by its creator, or is associated with a trademark.

No, I made several good arguments, you just moved goalposts and declared they don’t matter.
