This is a very myopic and hateful comment, man. People died because of poor crowd control (something that happens at non-religious gatherings too, by the way) and your first instinct is to use terms like “stupid” in relation to these people’s religion. In states where religion is a protected attribute, saying something like this aloud to their families would quite literally be considered harrassment and discrimination.
It is not yet clear what led to the crush. Witnesses said the exit was too narrow and when people were leaving, a fierce dust storm led to confusion and panic, causing many people to become trampled.
You are literally a mod here, so I shouldn’t need to quote this at you but:
Community Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
Emphasis mine. Quite disappointed to see this, dude. Come on.
you discovered the importance of multiple non-associated fact checking institutions holding one another accountable :)
genuinely i used to subscribe to the same theory
and then it switched. i think they’re here genuinely. not even sure what happened to change my mind. your mileage may vary? but i get where you are coming from.
i feel like druids, if forced to pick a side, might be on the side favoring protecting nature :)
wait i love this theory and hate it so much it just might be correct
If it causes lasting damages they will and should be prosecuted for exactly what happens. I’m hoping they did their due diligence but hey, if not that was dumb as hell of them and they should pay for it.
Again though, the sentiment remains that people are going to die. That damage is also irreparable and far less redeemable. I support this kind of action.
dude im not trying to be clever i just don’t like people telling me what i believe. do you?
my quarrel is with people who tell me what my real quarrel is thank you very much. edit: that includes status quo liberals telling activists how to fight for a livable future and you telling me who i am upset at.
i have no opinion on the headline or who believes it. please do not tell me what i believe.
yknow what fuck it, i support this. i was a little on the reactionary side back when they were throwing soup,
but after seeing hundreds of comments saying “just do <insert violent felony> if you want something done” and then seeing those same people turn around and say “but safely blocking streets in protest is an affront to my rights, stop being annoying”
…i get it now. it’s cornstarch and will wash off. calling for “optics” is just concern trolling. people are hearing about it. that’s the point. fuck oil. keep up the messaging. people are going to starve and drown and bleed from war caused by climate change. we are gonna survive a few people yeeting nonpermanent shit at public art.
fiduciary duty requires that directors of corporations protect the interests of shareholders’ investments—including maximizing profits where reasonable and within the bounds of the law.
even if technically illegal on paper (which i’m not sure it is), so long as there is no enforcement or accountability, t-mobile and similar entities have literally no reason do do better. they are literally just holding up their end of the law.
in other words, this unfair treatment isn’t just one of many unfortunate flukes. it is literally baked into the system as a requirement.
💯💯💯 If this process weren’t going on, others would come out of the woodwork going “if Biden is committing war crimes why isn’t the international community calling him out for it?”
Maybe not the same people who are doubting this, but it would happen. When genocide is happening it’s good to do what we can rather than send thoughts and prayers.
Sometimes I do think Lemmy forgets that structured social pressure among leadership is a thing.
Like no, BDS isn’t going to suddenly cripple the Israeli economy, nor is Biden going to suddenly get arrested for war crimes.
But that doesn’t make these actions meaningless. Best case it compounds with other action over time into concrete progress, and worst case it at least provides conviction and encouragement to leaders trying to do the right thing.
No comment as this is barely related to what I am posting about.
General trends should only be applied by trained professionals, such as physicians or dietitians, who can do so with the necessary care and attention. Unless you are a doctor, you’re right that it’s hard! In fact you shouldn’t do it at all.
It is important for people to understand this concept, because it seems to be commonly overlooked. The average person should not create a diet or fitness plan based solely on data like what is discussed in this article. Rather, it is far more healthy to defer to professionals and their recommendations in the form of interpretation of that data for guidance rather than attempting to interpret this information on your own.
also see this comment about that out of context quote:
Here you encounter the difference between personal anecdote and statistical averages in risk factors :)
Risk factors don’t mean you, personally are doing something wrong, risk factors just help identify patterns that inform action in health care where it is needed
you may end up eating more later in the day.
Heads up for other confused readers, that subheading…
“According to new research, skipping breakfast or excessive screen time are risk factors for developing obesity…”
Is egregiously cut out of context, I am guessing by the publishing site. In context, that quote is meant to hilight the wide variety of risk factors for obesity, not to suggest that those are the most common or significant.
I wish there was a way to reach out to correct this error but I couldn’t find one.
based and the correct choice. it’s just been a new way to dehumanize and it’s never appropriate. just report it if you are genuinely concerned about bot activity, everything else is just nasty.
