Indeed. And that’s not even taking account those discs are much harder to get a hold of and/or more expensive than the Gameboy Player itself!

Oh absolutely! That’s the killer app for the Gameboy Player IMHO. Properly felt like a return to the SNES days of 2D platforming, but with improved tech and quality of life. Love it.
Big shout out to the Gameboy Player add-on for the GameCube, and the equally brilliant Game Boy Interface which vastly improves the video quality.
After the issues with 0.17 server support last week I’ve been swapping between Liftoff, Thunder and Connect for Lemmy. But Liftoff is the one I keep coming back too. I’ve seen people touting wefwef which is a progressive web app, but the fonts are tiny for my old eyes and I can’t see anyway to adjust it.
Tusky is my current preference, but have tried Megalodon, Mastodon and Fedilab. I couldn’t get with Fedilab, the font sizes in particular were never right.
RG35XX. Love it. Am considering cancelling my pre-order for the Analogue Pocket because I’m blown away by how good the RG35XX is with GarlicOS. I’m not sure I could go from this to a device that doesn’t have SNES save states.
I had to take codeine for a week after getting just one removed and I was absolutely out of it. So, your mileage may vary.
Doesn’t work on Jerboa ☹️ At least I now know why my feed seems to be filled with these html image links.
Definitely. Nothing really caught my attention in terms of the used retro games, but got chatting to Alastair from Lowtek games who was really nice, and just loved the look of the blue cart. Plus any excuse to fire up the old front loader!
I’d suggest Löve, which uses Lua. It’s a powerful language but equally easy to learn. You could also try Pico8, which is also a version of Lua. It’s presented as if it’s an old 8-bit microcomputer with a built in sprite and tile editor. I find Pico8 much more approachable for beginners. Python is another good starting point for low end hardware.
That makes sense. I haven’t done much research into the pocket, but my understanding is that the FPGA allocated for the OpenFPGA cores is quite small, and that the save states on the MiSTer increase the FPGA usage quite considerably, so I guess it’s no superise that there isn’t enough space to a support them. I do have quite a lot of GB and GBA carts, and that’s really why I ordered one, but I’ve found myself using the save states on the rg35xx very frequently. It’s so convenient just to turn it off and for it to save.
Oh man. The pocket doesn’t have SNES save states? Mine is on order but not due for ages. I’ve been playing on an Rg35xx in the meantime and don’t know if I can go back to no save states!
Looks interesting. Downloading the demo now to see if it works on GarlicOS on my RG35XX. My Analogue Pocket is due sometime next century I reckon.
Fark eh. I used to have a double digit account number of there. Those were the days.
FF6. Not playing the pixel remaster, but the “Ted Woosley Uncensored” patch with bug fixes. I’ve tried many times to play this, and I’m now the furthest I’ve ever been through it! Have also started Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart on PS+, and I really should be playing that before it inevitably gets removed, but I’m sticking with FF6.
I’ve been meaning to pickup this game. I was a ZX Spectrum owner as a kid and coveted the Master System during trips to Dixons on Saturday afternoons. But I could never justify it to my parents. The cost of the carts vs the price of spectrum games on tape! However, I recently started buying Master System games after realising my Mega SG came with a cartridge adaptor, as well as the fact the UK library is plentiful and mostly economical. Psycho Fox is on my list of games to buy… Maybe I’ll seek out a copy this week.
Thanks for the welcome! I’m on a discord called Super Backlog Bros (although admittedly I’m not active on it) and they have a series of knockout polls over the month to choose games for the subsequent month. Personally I have kids and am halfway through FF6, so that’s me for a while. But I like the idea of a community playthrough.
What about one or two regular weekly threads perhaps? e g. “New Pickup Monday”?
Only read posts. I don’t want to necessarily hide read posts. If it’s interesting I want to keep coming back to it. Also if it’s a junk, offensive, triggering, spammy repost I don’t want to have to “read” it to make it go away.
