I think it’s also a lack of tech understanding. I know how easy it is to fork a repo so I get how great the fediverse is with all the services being FOSS and anyone can create an instance. This major benefit makes no sense to someone who doesn’t even know what a git repo is or the difference between free (but you are the product being sold) and FOSS.

We aren’t sure. It’s still a billionaire owned social media. For some reason people are too afraid of the freedom actual decentralized social media gives them and they want a billionaire behind the scenes running everything and coralling them to the correct opinions.

So I agree you can’t extrapolate the behavior of society as a whole from what happens on Lemmy, but you can use it to pinpoint outliers.

Will they though? The biggest lemmy instance are a bunch of anti-Democratic pro authoritarian tankies. Maybe these people are too terminally online to attend protests but I don’t think we can just assume Democracy is some universal thing we can rally people behind. As they say, if Republicans can’t win via democracy, they will simply abandon it.

I noticed Edge would only show me corporate/authority friendly results recently as well oddly cutting down the number of results I see to a very unnaturally short amount of results.

Deleting it and moving to DuckDuckGo which while the corporate friendly things were still at the top, it at least showed me some opposition results.

Zelensky needs to face reality that Ukraine isn’t getting any more support from the US and start more seriously seeking aid elsewhere. They’ll be lucky if the US doesn’t start sending jets and weapons to Russia. The US is an enemy now.
