Any company that does marketing is looking to create demand and generate interest. Part of generating interest is tapping into your desire , which could include want to get ahead and not getting left behind.

There is some support for lower income brackets but my personal opinion is there should not be “billionaires” in the first place, and that’s where the system falls short. “Billions” is an obscene amount of wealth to be had by one person.

Income is your wage or the actual money you make from your business. Most rich people generate wealth via their assets (e.g, the stock / property they own skyrocketed in value), and these are only taxed when sold and at a much lower rate.
Their wealth is almost entirely in assets which gets taxed at a much lower rate compared to income, and only when they sell. And don’t forget about all the write-off, tax tricks their armies of lawyers and accountants can set up for them. So if you work for your wages then the system is definitely stacked against you.
They do not have a billion in “income” otherwise they’d get taxed up their nose like regular people do. Their wealth is in their assets like stocks and properties which gets taxed at a far lower rate.

I’ve actually had this game kicking around for a while, never gotten into it until I got a Steam Deck this year and have not been able to put it down since.
The game really resonated with me, especially after having been through the pandemic and surviving the same isolation and longing for connection that fundamentally underpins plot of the game. The characters are amazing (great cast - Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen are just stellar in their roles), the world is vast, cinematic and often scary, and the gameplay mechanics are so deep that I’m still learning new things after 50+ hours into the game. So much to unpack. There is also a fair bit of weirdness, humor and cheese mixed in that is signature Kojima, that cracks me up once in a while.
It is truly an unique game and one of a kind experience. Nothing really like it.

Favorite thing: the ability to suspend a game anytime, and pick up exactly where you left off.
Least favorite thing: a tie between the weight and the weak battery life. Never have my hands been so numb after extended sessions on the Steam Deck.
Which is kind of my point. Even on Lemmy the “data ownership” isn’t really up to the individual users, it’s the instance owners. The only way to 100% control where your data goes (as an user) and who looks at it, is if you run your own instance. Otherwise you are still at the mercy of another master, hopefully a more benevolent one.
And if the instance that most new users default to is lemmy.world and that instance is 100K users strong, I think the “smaller instance” argument doesn’t really apply there for most users.
