why do we hate the us government
uhhhh where do you wanna start. I mean pick a year between 1776 and now. Pick a month, probably.
they said that about suffrage and women’s suffrage too.
I feel like I’m starting to see way more sympathetic comments than I did a year ago.
not at home but I believe there’s a few that run in docker.
So basically the bit in Succession when Mattsson tells Tom he wants to fuck his wife and is looking for “a pain sponge”
my wife got a few hundred bucks from a feminine hygiene product, unless you count that as “cents on the dollar” meaning a percentage of the final amount - in which case, that’s the case in every settlement.
not to mention like fucking Nestlé, Montsano, Blackrock, Northrop Grunman
yeah. 5 mins. Thats all you play. Definitely not 3 or 4 hours just disappear the moment you load it up.
Automated a copywriting gig on an extremely locked down terminal entirely in Excel VBA.
It would open my email, download the list of tasks, open a browser, extract the official product copy, RegEx it into bullets, I would add a few verbs and conjunctions, hit a button it would upload it to the CMS. Turned an 8 hour day into 30 mins.
Consider this: I pick up a tennis racket and a tennis ball, so does my wife, we go to a tennis court, I hit the ball to her gently, she hits it back: Are we playing tennis or not?
If we are not, what are we doing?
And yet it’s nowhere near the level of Serena Williams, or even the local semi Pro tournament, or probably even the local tennis club.
why does it have it be good, or more accurately for this conversation- why do you have to like it for it even to exist and have a name?
I dont particularly care for The Wiggles, or for Machine Gun Kelly, but both of them produce music. Just because I don’t like it, or think it’s not good doesn’t mean it’s not music. Even a child slowly, shakily playing a basic C major scale and getting it wrong is still “music.” Its not Mozart but it still exists.
There is no “point” or “value” you can attach to tennis, music or sculpture - or other forms and media of art, entertainment, sport, science etc that means it suddenly becomes that. Art you don’t like is still art.
ah yes, being able to survive being hit with a hammer, what everyone is looking for from art.
really a mix, pop, death metal, jazz, alt, edm… although if I need to concentrate it needs to be a song that I don’t know if it has lyrics as otherwise it’s distracting
a year to work a full time job I meant.
edit: I looked it up, average - 50th percentile - is actually $79k per annum. Still not crazy money for a full time job.
pay me a marketing fee
Average pay is like 50-60k [per year] for a[n average of a] 40 hour week [job], less if you’re like social media coordinator or something. It’s not like it’s crazy money.
And why hate on people that are usually artists, writers, creatives etc spending half their life using their talents in a bland corporate way to make money to pay the bills so they can spend 10% of their life actually creating art?
Plus, everyone’s job is easy when you reduce it to simplistic terms
I can be a back end developer: just organize the data and show it on my screen. Don’t show me a login page, don’t ask for my preferences, don’t give me help articles, just organize the data
I can be a firefighter: just put out the fire, don’t ride around in a big truck, don’t slide down a pole just put out the fire.
Eh. it’s start up culture. They give the C suite 50 million dollars and want 100 million dollars in 10 years and they aren’t shy about going full Gordon Ramsay on anyone not 100% dedicated to that, even if you just get paid hourly to manage social media
venture capital. a group of investors with money who will put that money into promising companies so when it’s successful you make more money back.
you say the lions share of murders are committed by drug gangs, but that’s ignoring the majority of gun injuries are self inflicted.
And while it was written into the constitution it was amended into the constitution, and like the 21st which repealed the 18th, could be amended out again.
you also say there are 5x defensive Gun owners. This is a made up statistic - there is no formal definition of a defensive gun owner, there is no way to shoot a gun defensively.
While it may take time - a few generations - maybe even a dozen generations - to disarm the majority of households, it’s possible.
who are you disarming
the majority of gun owners own guns for fun/sport. So while, yes, it is sad to ruin fun, it’s also sad to have children killed.
Finally, you don’t have to ban all guns, you could keep say, bolt action rifles and single barrel shotguns - where sports and hunting could still continue. This wouldn’t solve all the problems but it might have saved lives multiplicatively in mass shootings.
people are banned from doing things because they did things. e.g. if you DUI you get banned from future driving not just punished for the past. Hackers get banned from the internet etc
If yelling “fire” in a movie theatre is so dangerous why not allow people to do it and don’t ban it and instead just arrest them after the stampede?
I always wondered if I’d like to write for video games (I write sketch, character, musical comedy) but honestly there’s probably very little fun in it, as you’re writing 95% one-sided conversations that are variations on “go to place, bring hack item”
