Yeah federated platforms like lemmy are a potential solution. I would guess they aren’t more popular because nobody directly profits from the success of these platforms, and since no one entity has control of it people in positions of power may be wary of adopting it.

Also a distributed platform is pretty much always going to be more complicated. This scares off the casual users that make up the majority of social media usernames.

Look at Linux; you can be more open, better on paper, cheaper, and even easier to use in some cases, but the success of online platforms is not a meritocracy. It’s a pageant.

Unless I’m missing something this seems trivial to test. Just test blood sugar before and after drinking a diet soda. If bloods sugar goes down then the sweetener likely caused a release of insulin. If it doesn’t change then it didn’t.

It seems petty far-fetched. If artificial sweeteners caused a runaway insulin spike then I would expect them to cause a lot of cases of diabetic shock.

It’s a bit conceited off him to assume he knows what’s best for his viewers. A review is supposed to give unbiased, timely, and accurate information about a product and let the customer decide if it’s worth their money. A reviewer can give opinions, of course, but only after the concrete numbers. Linus has no idea what $800 is worth to any given viewer; I bet there are many who would happily pay that much for a custom water block if it was the best on the market. To bad we don’t know how good it is because ltt didn’t adequately test it.

I used to watch the wan show, but stopped because Linus was frankly becoming pretty unrelatable. It’s sad to see them lose the plot like this, but I’m not surprised. I think Lmg has been growing far faster than they could keep ahead of, and the train is off the rails now…

I heard once that Nintendo has enough cash in the bank to operate for the better part of a century without turning a profit. No clue if it’s true, but if it is there may not be much valve (or anyone else) could do to make them nervous. Nintendo seems petty and stubborn enough to operate at a loss for a long time if it means they can keep running things as they like.

The os updates thing may hold more water for iOS… It’s a bit suspect when comparing to Windows and just plain wrong if you compare to any major Linux distro.

Arch Linux

So that I can brag about using Arch Linux.

Seriously though, I wanted to learn about Linux and chose trial-by-fire. I’ve used other (Debian based) distros but pacman + the Arch user repository are hard to live without now.

Though if I ever had to reinstall I’d probably save myself some headache and install EndeavorOS.

Yeah lot of talking about using sync vs foss. I think that giving people more options is good for lemmy as a whole at the end of the day.

Maybe. Time will tell, but either way Lemmy won too. And me. Having a better time here; there’s at least the potential for meaningful discourse here unlike the firehouse of pointless pseudo-conversation on the larger subreddits.
