  • It was meant to be a self depreciating joke, but now I can’t help myself. I think this topic ends up having everybody involved make a bunch of assumptions about each other before it begins.

However, I have experienced people say that they, “don’t want to get political,” right after being confronted for saying something misinformed, hurtful, etc. It can be weaponized as an excuse to avoid self reflection.

I know that isn’t the case for everybody, but I have seen, “don’t make things political,” used as, “don’t bring in politics at odds with my own.” It’s often not even recognized by that person as being hypocritical. Sometimes our own politics can become the default in our mind and everybody else’s view is the “political” one.

  • “Insider was unable to independently confirm what was found, but Israeli media outlets have also reported the claim, attributing it to soldiers.”

“The spokesperson told Insider that although he hadn’t seen images or videos himself, ‘soldiers on the ground who are there told me this.’”

From your own article they are the unconfirmed claims from somebody who’s job it is to spread propaganda.

Edit: To be clear the actions that are known to have been committed are horrific, but a group like Hamas does not appear from nothing. The perpetuation of an apartheid state is met with backlash.

  • I completely understand why people would want a tighter instance. I started using Reddit significantly less awhile ago because a good chunk of the content and comments were either misinformed, malicious, or both. I’m hopeful that large instances can foster friendlier and healthier cultures, but right now I’m seeing so many people willing to make excuses for assholes and blaming the people that don’t want to deal with those assholes.

  • They are curating their instance in a particular way which is the very thing that the fediverse and lemmy allows for. Some people are butthurt that they aren’t included.

The slightly more detailed explanation is that there has been a big increase in bots and trolls and due to a lack of moderation tools they opted for defederating with instances that conflicted with their goal. That goal seems to be an easy going and tolerant community. By nature this goal means that it will be a smaller community and for some reason that has angered people.
