You think just because airplane mode is turned on means the phone isnt still functional?

WiFi still works in airplane mode. WiFi calling exists, Signal Exists. I dont need to be on my phone for the 20 or so minutes I’ll be without connection in the car, and everywhere offers free WiFi. Use a VPN + randomized mac and you might as well be an anonymous anomaly.

I also find it dubious at best that in less than 20 years people have completely forgotten you don’t have to be reachable at all times. You used to have to share a landline between a family of 5, and you werent always home. Before that, you had to either send a letter or go find that person physically. People can function without having to be contactable 24/7

I mean I dont disagree with you. I try to minimize those risks as much as I can in my life. I run CalyxOS, only run FOSS apps, keep airplane mode on unless I’m out & expecting a call, keep location off unless I need a GPS. I get your point though, I’m in the minority on that.

If there was a Pi Zero on par with the Pi 4 I’d definitely be making my own “phone” though. i hate knowing part of my phone is a google black box.

it’s an improvement but I’m still not happy about these huge ass buttons in the notification shade that could easily be half the size. Theres so much wasted space. I used to be able to access 6 quick tiles in the minimized shade. now its 4. Used to have 9-12 tiles on a full shade. now we have 8.

If you’re going to continue to make 6"+ phones, USE THE SCREEN SPACE FOR FUCKS SAKE

Idk why but on my phone it just keeps redirecting me to https://maps.apple.com/frame after it loads, infinitely. Thats so odd that it works for you on the same browser with the same config and not for me. I wonder if my Pi-Hole has something different making it happen

I’ll be honest at first I thought this would’ve been a good thing so I can uninstall GMaps for when I need to get somewhere on a time constraint (I mainly use Organic Maps), and it was a + that it was only a website for me, but I can’t get the website to actually load. It keeps refreshing and not loading, on both IronFox (Firefox fork) and Chromium 😭

Its just the G32 G42 and G52 I believe, and then the Fairphone 4 and 5. Like I said though its not helpful unless youre on a GSM carrier, because of course the US has to be different and have a 2nd standard that only some phones work with. (if you can’t tell I’m on a CDMA carrier and am stuck with pixels unless I move to a place where GSM carriers have more coverage)

This is true. Can’t run Graphene or Calyx on anything else (unless you want to import a Fairphone Or Moto for Calyx, but EVEN THEN they only work on GSM carriers.)

I didn’t mean to try and invalidate how people consume their media, I’m just frustrated with the fact that there is no longer an option to even buy a smaller phone. When you I had originally responded to you with the TV comment, it wasn’t about invalidating people who do watch tv on a phone. It was about the fact the ideal way to do it is on a tv, with the assumption that it was implied you could also watch stuff on a smaller phone. IMHO, a 6.5" screen for viewing is not that much different from a 5" screen, but it makes a world of difference for holding and using it. I can’t type on my phone without using two hands currently, its constantly pulling on my pants, and if I’m not wearing a belt (say, sweatpants or shorts) I’m constantly pulling my pants back up, and I have a few pairs of pants where the thing falls out of my pocket and in between the car door while im closing it because of how big it is. I hate it and I want a smaller one. I apologize for any of it being a personal attack, but I still feel like every single phone being 6"+er is frustrating for people like me, and I know for a fact I’m not the only person with these problems.

i’m not moving the goalpost, I’m standing by what I’m saying. I dont need my brain to be constantly stimulated by media to function in day to day life.
