Pretty sure it’s to enable extensions written in JS. These apps build their success on a rich ecosystem of plugins. And, like it or not, JS plays a big part in that.

I 'mma just leave this here https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-65471904
I dunno man. A teenager baiting a billionaire into spending a significant amount of his fortune to shut him up sounds like the most successful troll in history to me.
No disagreements about about him being a prick, but wishing cancer and even death on another person seems pretty wild to me.
No joke, I’ve been using Bing’s GPT-4 search and it’s helped me much more frequently than Google lately. AI might actually be where Bing out-competes Google.
This is literally perpetuated by schoolyard bullying. Anyone over the age of 20 will very likely be entirely out of touch with how big a deal green/blue is for pre-teens and teens these days. It’s pretty much a cornerstone in teen social structures.
Wut? I’m in Europe and I’ve never had WhatsApp in my life.
Yeah can I get adblock on iPhone with Firefox?
Absolutely right - Signing up needs to be as easy as signing up for reddit. And same with searching for and subscribing to communities, even on other instances. Your average user wants the technical details of the Fediverse abstracted away from them. Anything beyond that and adoption won’t be what we (most of us?) would like it to be.
Anyone able to tell me which open source AI models the memo might be referring to? I’m not up to date on the landscape here and would love to know more.
Is it actually thriving? I haven’t downloaded it or made an account to check so I wouldn’t know, but I would’ve thought I’d have seen the content referenced from other places if this was the case… So far I think I’ve seen one Thread screenshotted and linked and it was Zuck’s demo one or something…
1Password isn’t open source, is it? I use it and I’m super happy with it though. I don’t mind paying a bit for good security. I do wish it was OSS though.
What’s wrong with «wefwef»? Genuine question I guess 😂
And what will people post on lemmy about?
Putin appears very weak from all this. I doubt this would ever be any of his ideas.
I honestly don’t care whether or not reddit (the company) gives a shit. I just want users to realize that reddit deserves to be replaced by something more open and user focused.
Oh you’re absolutely right! Thank you! I swear I checked for it a couple of days ago 😅
Ranking is hard. My biggest gripe with this however, is that the front page doesn’t seem to cache my filter/sorting options between page reloads. I’ve resorted to replacing the anchor href on the logo with my own preferred pre-filtered search result href, via JS injection.
For sure it will pass. I think the reddit landscape in the aftermath largely depends on the duration of the blackout. I think for people go truly shake the habit, it needs to go on for a signficant amount of time. Otherwise the masses will return, forget, and move on.
I don’t disagree, but that’s not what most people care about.
