the thing about this is that those places have already doomed themselves to getting fucked, it’s just a question of when. Might as well pray it comes early so it’s less of a fall.

have you looked at simplex? at a glance it seems robust and it actually works without much fiddling which is nice.

it’s particularly baffling since KDE plasma is at this point kiiiiiinda just the best desktop, including windows and mac.
By default it just works as 90% of people would expect it to, and if you want to you can customize it into something unrecognizable and it’ll outright help you to do so.
It’s so fucking good that i switched to it just because my mom has it on her laptop and it looked fucking sweet

is checking the thing’s fucking spec sheet intensive research? do you get AI summaries of your own shopping list?

i have to wonder if people even research the things they buy or if they just walk into the store with 2000€ and say “give me a washing machine”, and never see the machine until the crew comes home to install it.
It’s an expensive piece of machinery that is going to be a core part of your home for like 10 years, check the manual and online reviews to make sure it doesn’t have a major flaw you’d be unhappy with, please.
i don’t get why people use web services for rss, it can be done completely clientside, that’s… kind of the whole point of rss…

huh? any serious marketplace has cheap or free basic insurance for purchases.
maybe specify where this is, lol, because it most certainly isn’t available in sweden for example…

trying to get rid of the tools is pointless, the data is out there for those who want it anyways.

you should also always assume a sufficiently willing person can find your identity, don’t post anything sensitive online, don’t post anything that would encourage those with resources to find your identity, and if you’re e.g. a politician then only post online to explicitly non-anonymous accounts. If you have a protected identity/location/that stuff, just don’t post online at all.

sherpaTTS has some decent voices, not studio quality but it’s good enough that you don’t think about it.

the ~ doesn’t belong there

it’s perfectly fine at e2e encryption, especially if you’re not federating.

“Open IRC federation is basically never used anymore”
so you admit IRC isn’t federated, lmfao

you can get rid of the AI bullshit right now by installing lineageos, that’s what i did and it’s a big part of making this the best phone experience available, there’s just no bullshit and everything works

indeed, plus i run ACCA to limit the charge level to 75% during the day and between 40-60% at night.

i’m on a used pixel 6a and frankly i have no particular desire to ever get a different model. sure it’d be nice to have something newer but this works absolutely fine and i would have 0 qualms using it for the rest of my life, barring the release of phones with hologram displays or some wacky shit.
and considering that the battery health is still 99% even after at least a year of me using it, i’m looking forward to seeing just how long i can go without replacing it. it’d be quite funny to go “yeah my phone’s a legal adult”

plasma has made such monstrious strides that i decided to switch to it after updating my mom’s laptop and going “oh shit that’s sweet”
i’m fairly certain you could mostly replicate gnome in plasma, just like you can replicate windows

huh? isn’t it just a simple xdg-mime query default inode/directory (obviously in non-bash code form) and then calling that program?
like if games can do this, why can’t steam?
also like, you still need a fucking computer, you’re not going to cram any sort of reasonable processing onto a fucking lens.
it’d legitimately be less useful than smart glasses
