Sused@lemmy.sdf.orgto Games@lemmy.world•[MEGATHREAD] Starfield - Your experiences!English6012·2 years agoI did not bite and will avoid it until 75% off GOTY edition all DLC in etc. Patient gamer through and through, burnt way too many times. So far what I read about it, it not optimized, it’s shallow, lacks polish, etc etc. Basically, a standard AAA fare, something we sadly grew to expect from major studios. Will be watching it for a while to see what I’m missing.

My policy is following: I will put out my maximum, work unreasonable shifts, pull as much as possible only if the bossman is right there beside me. Of course, my experience is outside huge corporate environments and more in SME, but I will not give a single extra fuck if I can help it. Once you do, it becomes expected of you all the time. Fuck that.

They’ll look to maximize what you initially offer, meaning they’ll load up more on you. Why not? You do more for the same amount of dinero. It’s probably too late for you at that job but now you know for the next one - always work at 80% capacity max.

Pros:
-
All actions have a leyboard shortcut
-
you can pause anytime and plan ahead
-
will satisfy your analytical brain that needs puzzles
-
randomized, each game will be different
-
can be played in short bursts should you get tired with the cast or whatever on
-
is amazing
-
randomized
-
dirt cheap
Cons:
-
you still need to use the mouse to aim weapons, albeit no need to be ultra precise…most of the time
-
randomized…will punish you sometimes so you just have to take it on the chin. Part of the fun and all that.

Sused@lemmy.sdf.orgto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Which proprietary software do you prefer over their open-source alternatives, and why?4·2 years agoBut that’s the whole point. I started exploring it and learning about it and realized that it will take more time than it’s worth - by that time I completed it in Word and fixed it’s own citation issues manually. I really, really want these to be better than MS Word…but they just aren’t there yet.
Sused@lemmy.sdf.orgto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Which proprietary software do you prefer over their open-source alternatives, and why?226·2 years agoMicrosoft Office. I write a lot of documents that require contant citation and updates of sources, comments, etc. I have to review documents, create tables of content etc etc. Even though MS Office is far from perfect in many of these, free alternatives such as Libre or Open Office are just terrible.
