The Android rom ones like xda forums are active.
This is definitely not what you’re looking for but college sports forums are active if you want to read the dumbest shit ever.
I’m from Louisiana so I’ll pick on my own team and link to to Tiger Droppings:

The recipe posts are actually good. It’s basically a forum for insane people who get mad about LSU gymnastics recruiting but then post an alligator sauce picante recipe that’s better than anything you’ve ever put in your mouth.
To start, I’d recommend checking out Flathub and seeing what’s available there. Flatpaks are relatively new but anything there can be installed on basically any Linux distro. It’s organized by category so you can see your options.
Chrome is available on Linux if you’re worried about switching. Firefox is usually the default and what I use just because I’ve always used it (plus, it fully supports ad blockers whereas Chrome now cripples them). Also, Chromium is essentially the exact same as Google Chrome. Both are made by Google and Chrome is just Chromium before Google adds all its branding and stuff.
Don’t worry about antivirus. ClamAV is there if you want to run a scan but you don’t need anything like Norton.
VPN: check your provider. Most work with OpenVPN or have a Linux client.
Gmail obviously works in the browser but there’s a ton of desktop email clients. To give three examples I’ve used:
Windows 10 is listed and I’m not quite sure what you mean but you can always run it in a virtual machine if you need it. I use Gnome as my Desktop Environment. Gnome Boxes is super simple. VirtualBox is more complex but has every option I’ve ever needed.
Don’t worry too much about the Desktop Environment thing. KDE and Gnome are the biggest two and both are pretty much equally capable. (You can also always install stuff made for the other if you want. It just might not match the theme.) There’s loads of desktop environments but don’t be intimidated by all the choices. Some are stripped down and designed for older or low-spec computers. There’s one focused on Chinese users. You can ignore most while you get your feet wet.
Half the 2000s Silicon Valley star executives seem to be there. Mark Zuckerberg even dresses like he’s in a Limp Bizkit cover band now. They’re not irrelevant due to money/power but they aren’t culturally relevant anymore and are seemingly all having a collective midlife crisis.
Just because he’s a clueless fool with connections who hasn’t invented anything (except maybe a truck where the sides fall off) doesn’t mean he’s not a “technologist.” He’s just as smart as smart as every other “effective altruist” or “networked state” moron.
You may be too young but remember when AOL had a highly paid “Digital Prophet” who was about as close to an actual clown as you could get without floppy clown shoes?
For the record, the network state movement means “seceding from the union.” And it won’t go any better for them than when Seasteading enthusiasts found out pirates exist.
Specialized A.I. (like Alphafold from Deepmind) is amazing. I mostly just think consumer-level generative A.I. that tries to do everything will probably suck for awhile.
Which I guess is basically like human intelligence if that’s how you’re measuring it. I can go to any bar and find someone confidently wrong 60% of the time. And you can win a Nobel Prize and not really know how to invest the award money competently.
You can use any shape you want. The rest is idiotic but you can get crazy with the shape if you want.
Does Tesla use dealerships in Canada? In the U.S., they don’t. They have showrooms owned by the company itself and you order online. My state requires dealerships1 and just have service centers here.
1 It’s a wildly antiquated law. When cars first came out, states passed laws requiring dealerships to guarantee the car companies could service the vehicles. Those laws are still on the books basically because car dealership owners are generally rich people who buy state legislatures. (And there’s a shocking amount who are state legislators.)
Is there confusion? From what I’ve read, Ukraine agreed to the partial cease fire and Russia didn’t. Russia was fine with including the terms of the partial cease fire but made absurd additional demands that were essentially a poison pill to force Ukraine to reject the counteroffer. That means there never was a cease fire agreement.
No. I’ll be unjustifiably confident and maybe I’ll live or die. But there’s actually a difference between regular cold and cold that hurts even if you’re wearing fancy pants.
I definitely learned that working with a law firm once. I could have set them up something more secure with an open source stack but what they really wanted was a company to blame if things weren’t as secure as I promised.
I imagine that’s why a lot of governments and big companies pick a big corporate vendor when it’d be cheaper and better to hire people. There’s less liability if you can blame a vendor than a specialist in the event something goes haywire.
I’m going to give a sincere answer.
Usually AWS (or Vercel and Mongo Atlas if it’s a Node/MongoDB situation or an early dev situation). I forget all the brand names the other cloud providers use and have to do a search for “EC2 equivalent Azure” or whatever. You can’t be an expert in everything, after all. Plus, Azure has admin pages where I have to use Chromium instead of Firefox and it’s like, “Come on, assholes.” I don’t mind Google Cloud but it’s rarely cheaper and I can’t justify it to someone paying me.
I know Amazon is evil. I cancelled my Washington Post subscription — I lived in DC so I kept it longer than most would — because Jeff Bezos is a fucking menace. But you kind of have to pick one or keep a chart on your desk with all the different brand names and what equals what.
Just use open source. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. I’m a full stack developer and I’ve never given Microsoft a dime.
Well, truth be told, my gaming PC came with Windows and I did buy Flight Simulator but I felt dirty after and some of the silly airplane peripherals weren’t working right with Fedora so I kept it dual boot. That was before Steam Deck and Proton, though, so I should probably test it all again.
As a Louisiana resident disgusted with what’s happening I make a solemn promise to the people of Greenland and Canada: when it gets below 40°F (4°C, 277K, 500° Rankine, etc.), I will just lay down and die before I fight someone. I was in Montreal in February once and I would have surrendered immediately had someone said the POW camp has mittens.
I endorse this. From now on, chicken pimps is what egg suppliers are called.
Egg prices aren’t high solely because of bird flu. They’re high because of regional monopolies and a price fixing cartel. The largest egg producers are seeing record profits.
I hope it’s clear that I’m not saying bird flu doesn’t exist or affect prices. I’m not much of a conspiracy theorist. But if I had to guess, I’d say it’s 10% bird flu and 90% companies raising prices in unison because they can blame bird flu. If it were just bird flu, the companies would be losing money.
NB: it feels very weird to call them “egg producers” because hens are the actual egg producers. Egg distributors, maybe? In any case, the distributors are doing fine and their only competition in most regions are small, organic farms whose eggs were already $7 a dozen. It’s just the low end of the market that’s gone crazy.
Desus and Mero interviewing David Lettermn is one of the most perfect interviews ever. https://www.paramountplus.com/shows/video/xnvqVqcIjAlW6JjWbCWqSFiN_BB484EG/
I’m sure it’s on a free service but it’s one of the finest moments in TV history.
There was a time when I didn’t know what those words meant either and I strongly encourage blissful ignorance over doing research only to come away more ignorant. Every time you don’t know what something on the Internet means, read a scientific paper or another few pages of Tolstoy or visit a museum. You’ll be a happier, healthier person.
Wait until they cut Medicaid. People are going to be gnawing on rechargeable AA batteries like it’s chewing tobacco. Maybe C or even D batteries if they need more OnlyFans subscriptions to make rent. It’s going to be like when N.O.R.E. found out Doja Cat was in racial chat rooms showing feet. People are going to find out their crazy but hot girlfriend ate whole car batteries for 8chan.
This is the America Ted Cruz wants. Vote for me and I will make sure Doja Cat gets the purest lithium.
