Executives do not see workers as people with skillsets. They’re numbers on a spreadsheet. And having ten highly paid workers quit “voluntarily” makes the numbers do good things.
Actually, they’re not even numbers on a spreadsheet. They’re data points in a graph. Executives don’t have time to understand numbers, let alone people.

Honestly, the fact that junior folks won’t be allowed to do things would be great. I’d love to see IT getting proper engineering certifications. People wouldn’t allow their factories to be built by non-certified engineers, but they’ll let their nephew who’s good with computers build their network. Seems like unions could help with that, too.
Another concern I have - which might also be anti-union propaganda - is that I won’t be allowed to do certain things because that job is supposed to be done by someone else according to the contract.
I hate doing that sort of thing because it makes me wait and by the time they get back to me another fire has started that I have to put out and it takes me a while to get back to the first thing.
I’d be happy to hear this isn’t a legitimate concern.

The FAANG acronym was the worst thing to happen to tech, because people will flock to Amazon to say “I worked for FAANG”. Prestige is a powerful thing to some, and they’ll deal with some insane shit for the clout that comes from being here.
The problem is that the clout boost is real. I never worked for a FAANG/MANGA company, but just having one relatively well-known company on my resume opened up options I never would have had. All my interviewers would mention it, even though it was almost 20 years ago.
I would say even those don’t need Internet. Navigation can be updated using a USB drive, and I have a phone for audio so I just need bluetooth.
The only network connection I want in my car is to notify emergency services if the airbags go off.

One thing they should change is the word “password.” This implies that it’s a short string. Changing it to “passphrase” will help people feel comfortable choosing credentials like “correct horse battery staple.”

Then, when a few B-29s were too damaged to make the long flight back to the island and diverted to Russia, they confiscated the planes and imprisoned their crews until the end of the war.
Then, after the war, they dismantled two of the planes so they could figure out how to build a good airplane and claimed it as their own and called it the Tu-4.

Yep! You can have multiple named screens, log them all individually, and they’ll keep processes running even if you disconnect. Never used tmux but screen is usually installed on the systems I’m working on.
I remember back when they first started getting popular I was at a conference and told a marketing person that we should make one instead of giving folks a long url. The marketing person said “I don’t know if we have the budget to register one.”
I used to think that this was because the marketing person didn’t know how they worked, but now I know that they thought it worked like UPCs.
