Least insane techno-optimist
oh wow now that’s what I’m looking for. Too bad there’s very few full sets…
She’s right, it is ideological. The ideals are this planet and the humans on it, which ironically includes her.
I’m not talking about bitcoin I’m talking about the creator of the video. And their talking points are very much libertarian.
I have a different question. Where do I get batshit crazy keycaps?
They are just a crypto shill and a neoliberal. They don’t care for liberation of humans, just for liberation of payments from government. They are a professional investor, I’d say this video is basically anarcho-capitalism in a nutshell. Some of the points they raise are valid, but many are not. For example, not being able to print more money in the government actually removes the ability to control deflation, and if governments can’t print money, that’s basically self-imposed austerity.
if you want to pay somebody on the other side of the world, crypto already lets you do that. There’s no need to hype it up any more than it already is.
Also disingenuous to hype up bitcoin without bringing up the inherent environmental concerns.
Its a microblogging platform like mastodon and no, we don’t need it in the fediverse. There’s exactly one explanation for why they would want to join.
it seems like maybe this is compatible, and is easier to host for a single user instance
Another user commented that you can run Unbound (the technology used by pihole) on your machine.
Even easier, configure your device to use an ad block DNS resolver. Control D has free ones: https://controld.com/free-dns
Yeah this is sad. Aside from his normal MEP duties, Breyer did incredible journalistic work on the EU plans on centralizing incredible power and creating a digital hellscape in Europe. They are planning to go full CIA on us.
They call themselves that
I’m still unhappy about it, because I don’t trust corporate interests in open and community-driven spaces like the fediverse. It’s never mixed well in the past.
I wouldn’t be surprised if BlueSky is soon “the easy way to follow people on Mastodon”
I would be even less surprised if they attempt an Embrace-Extend-Extinguish tactic within 5 years.
You misunderstood me. I’m saying after the revolution. The Engels quote implies that because revolution is authoritarian, so is whatever system it implements. Which I disagree with
How about, I don’t know, establishing some sort of democracy? Just a crazy idea
The next sentence is the most important:
However, you can never be 100% sure and after the fact it’s impossible to prove with certainty that was the cause….but it made us wonder.
lol
snaps (and if installed, flatpaks) should integrate very well into an ubuntu system. Does ubuntu really not update flatpaks and snaps through the normal update manager or whatever? Fedora definitely does.
On Android you can just install another keyboard if your current one doesn’t have a setting for this.
If I had to guess a business case, I’d say that predictive text as a feature gives you a “legitimate reason” to send your typing data to Google or whoever to train the prediction engine, and they want that data.
Don’t be evil
Okay first things first Jack Dorsey is a tool
The US government / CIA did in fact develop the protocol back in the day, with the goal of helping people in China and other countries message securely, probably with ulterior motives.
But the protocol itself is open source, and you can use it without any affiliation with the US government.
The claim " It looks almost as if big tech in the US is not allowed to build its own encryption protocols that would be independent of government interference 🐕🦺" is therefore so stupid it almost invalidates everything else being said because the person writing is either an idiot or purposely misrepresenting the facts.
Not having reproducible builds is definitely weird though. Does anybody have more information on that?
these look so cool.
