Ohh it’s much worse than that. Usually humans would live to around 60 if they survived infancy before that. Their diet was varied and since food was a limited resource, there was no way of population blasts. But agriculture just fucked it all up. We stopped moving around since the land needed constant maintainence and since the diet became mostly carbohydrates, combined with back breaking work, our life expectancy dropped to 40. We didn’t domesticate wheat, wheat domesticated us. It took modern medicine… ie 20th century to get the average life expectancy up again.
I recommend you read the book called Sapiens. It’s an eye opener.
I recommend fedora to every one. It’s the correct kind of stable distro. The kernel updates are slow to roll out after being tested and all… But guess what version of plasma I have? 6.1. That’s just a few weeks later than arch got it.
Plus not to mention how easy setting up my Optimus gpu was because of rpmfusion. I have never had such ease with any other distro.
So I recommend fedora all the way.
Agriculture.
Windows people don’t get async saves? Wtf. Where are the Spyware benifits?
Factorio is so amazing on linux. Like the devas actually care about Linux. They care so much that went on to shit on Gnome for no client side decorations. Absolute legends. Wish more studios wer like them.
I don’t know about others here but I manually hibernate with
systemctl hibernate
And it works pretty well. I set up 16gb swap for my 16gb ram (Which I know is overkill) but it works. I am on Fedora 40
Use bottles. It works great for me.
Install bottles via flatpak. Run it and create a new bottle with the gaming preset. Got to the settings - > runners and download the latest “proton-ge” runner. Then just add the exe to the bottle and add it to your library. Launch to play.
It really helps smooth the curve. Some installers fail to open so I use the system default to install it and then copy them over to my games directory.
PS: if you see no exe files being listed when you try to add an exe, clear the file filter in the bottom to all files. Bottles has this weird bug on some DEs
Man thanks for sharing the fizz buzz link.
Refox OS. I know today isnt a magic bullet but it makes committing memory mistakes a lot harder. Also rust gets first class status as the is standard library calls it and we can slowly get over the legacy of C.
Yes, there may be an alternative answer. Just need to throw general relativity out of the window.
To be fair, future physics may indeed throw it away so there’s that.
Dark matter IS A THING. At least there is some thing out there that interacts weakly with the elctroweak force and interacts normally with gravity. We have plenty of evidence of it EXISTING. The problem of dark matter is we don’t know what it is… But sure as hell there is something. See the Bullet cluster if you don’t believe me. And if you are a bit physics savvy, you can understand that it’s evidence is imprinted in the CMB. We just don’t know what it is.
Gotta resoect the tty. Consistently consitent
I have a story that most of here might have faced. I ran dd on my external drive instead of my usb stick to create an iso. 1.8TB of data poof.
How did they solve the static dust problem?
All hail zorp the surveyor
Thank you kind sir. I meant the LMMS DAW. Can you recommend me a good DAW to start?
I have changed my mind about how much we should bet on the fucker actually existing. The dude who sent the Carl Sagan video… You da mvp
Fellow Sapiens enjoyer
Sorry for hijacking this beautiful conversation you talented gentlemen are having, but can help me out?
I wanted to learn electronic music creation. I learnt very briefly how fl studio works, and then got busy due to my workload. Now I want to give it a go again. I heard llms is good for Linux, but I don’t understand how to get various instrument samples like fl studio. How do I set it all up? Can you point me to any good resources. I am also not committed to lmms and am open to suggestions.
I recently coded up a dirt simple image viewer. Like it is stupidly simple.
You can give it a go https://github.com/Dr-42/imeye
