  • I don’t have an answer to your actual question other than self-hosting. But, I doubt you’d ever get a “firehose of trash” on your main feed. Mainly because the trashy instances aren’t that populous, so I doubt their posts would be active or hot enough to float to the top. But I could be wrong.

You could always go directly to the instance you want to read and lurk. Unless you make an account you won’t be able to comment, but you’ll be able to get your firehose of trash

Edit: Just be mindful of how much you consume, you’d be surprised how easily hate can invade your mind. To this day I still have to self-censor every now and then thanks to the hateful rhetoric I grew up around, even though I’m long past it

  • Absolutely, there’s a long history of the “in-group” co-opting culture from the “out-group” because it’s seen as exotic and transgressive. Was it hypocritical for such a homophobic generation to idolize queer icons, only so long as they were cool and made good music? On a cultural level, yeah. On an individual level, depends on the individual and their specific beliefs and actions

Edit: Also my favorite Bowie album will always be Ziggy Stardust. Maybe a little basic but it just hits all the right campy, flamboyant, and always-incredible notes

Yeah, it’s better, but it’s not great if you’re doing it every day like the user above (edit: the original one who posed the question) was suggesting. I just don’t think the advice should end at “switch to weed” because it’s just changing the problem instead of offering advice for fixing it

Not the guy you asked but maybe try to find the root of your habit. When I’m continuously doing something I want to stop, I find there’s a reason. Like for me, I drink more often than I mean to because I’m bored and feeling like my life has no meaning, but alcohol helps me relax and enjoy the little day to day things. So then that gives me a path forward: find things I’m more passionate about, do more fulfilling things instead of going straight to video games and tv, go back to therapy, etc.

So maybe your drinking is because you’re just bored, maybe you have an underlying issue like depression or anxiety, maybe you’re medicating your stress or avoiding addressing something. Idk it’s up to you.

But remember that you typically do things for a reason, and you’re not alone in struggling with this issue. It’s a lot of us man
