They are /were notorious for lackluster support on Linux and sleep/wake issues are /were significant.
IIRC you still need to configure a few bits to get it to work properly (maybe just a systems service enable?).

I think you’d be fine with Bazzite. I have it on my laptop and do more general dev and media things than gaming. I don’t boot to game mode (you can make this selection on iso download). It’s a typical KDE experience that encourages flatpack for apps instead of the traditional package manager.
Yeah, also a dev here. I’d be so happy if they’d parted ways with the 90s legacy bits at some point. Just glad there are enough parsing libraries that I’ll never need to care (right? Please tell me I’m right!).
This is probably my first time ever using it for an appropriate purpose as this team’s technical docs are destined for the press (and digital distribution). They just have no idea how to software, so I was brought in to build bridges between and ultimately simplify all their tools.

Off the top of my head, I think sudo journalctl -xeb -1 should give you some useful error output for the previous boot (after rebooting from a failure).
There’s a --list-boots option if you’ve rebooted a couple times since but aren’t entirely sure.

That does seem pretty obligatory. We have the same thing on our irrigation (don’t want irrigation water backflowing in to the drinking water, and also it’s required).
We are at the top of a hill and everything flows down from us to the entire neighborhood, so that is another good check on the issue.
I’ve got a similar situation to your rental for my basement (the main floor drains separately). There’s a macerator/pump combo in an 8ish gallon tank in a pit cut through the foundation (lined with concrete) that elevates to the main drain outside the house. The pump failed a couple years ago and was not fun to deal with. Luckily it was exclusively laundry that day. Everything connected to it is vented.
When we get pushed to connect to sewer (one way or another), my plan is to get a bit silly and connect at the lowest level so we can avoid the pump for the future.

I had to go the other direction (Linux -> apple) for a bit and ended up remapping the caps lock key to command so I could approximate “normal” reflexive (pinky-based) shortcuts. It did sort of simplify copy-pasting in terminals.
The other commenter is giving good advice, but I think they’re knee-jerking a bit hard on the arch base. I presented 3 gaming oriented distributions. All have guardrails. All are opinionated. All are fully featured, user-friendly experiences.
Yes, arch (by itself) is a bad idea as a solution, but so is gentoo, and so is Debian testing.
I believe the issues they’re so concerned about actually apply to every rolling release distro like the others, but it’s the only way you’re going to get OOTB support for the 9700xt until the major release distributions catch up.
Linux users have strong feelings and often let perfect at any expense get in the way of good enough and cheap. This is a demonstrably negative experience for new users.

FWIW, there are many arch-based distros with a lot of handholding. Heck, garuda has built in btrfs snapshots on update. I believe OP would have an easier time using garuda than setting up all the other things necessary to make other plain rolling release distributions work.
To OP, raw arch is definitely not for newbies. Don’t try to install arch to fix your issue.

That said, I can’t in good conscience recommend the manual route for a Linux newbie, so strongly consider a fedora or arch based distro.
If gaming is your primary use case, the ones with tons of gaming apps and tweaks built in are Bazzite (based on fedora atomic), nobara (based on fedora), and garuda “Dr460nized” gaming (Based on Arch)
I started off with fan grills and led fans and cold cathode lighting way back when.
Now, my gaming PC, which is about due for its 5 yr update again, is in an old antec sonata case from 2008ish. I’ll probably splurge on a new one next round, but if it’s fancy, it will be one of those unassuming fractal cases with wood.
