SimpleX is a highly secure IM app, so does WireMin, but it is more than just a secure IM app.
First of all, they are in commons with some of their privacy-focused characteristics:
But why I would say that WireMin is more than just a secure messaging tool?
Here are some WireMin’s unique features that I discovered so far:
- Available on desktop device (Windows, MacOS, Linux), because decentralized network may cause high amount of cellular data usage when connecting with nodes.
- Boasting a Discovery section to connect with all WireMin users.
- Feed space for* blog posting*, sharing anonymously.
- Public Chat space with unlimited members
- Web 3 aspect: ‘D-payment’ for crypto transfer while chatting with your friends
- Fast & Unlimited file transfer
All in all, if you are only looking for secure messaing tool, both SimpleX and WireMin can meet your need, but SimpleX is only a messanging tool, WireMin is a completely decentralized social network, as described on their web page “A new era of social network – Freedom”, basically it is more fun and useful than SimpleX.
Personally thinks that WireMin can replace Twitter, Facebook, and other big tech social media, these web2 platforms has override on users for too long, stealing and spying on their data. WireMin structuring everything differently through decentralization, which means data ownership and privacy right is 100% on user’s hand.
1con for SimpleX: It is not 100% decentralized, this is its disadvantage.
1 con for WireMin: Not open sourced, but it is on Alchemy dapp store. I have asked their dev team, responded as: “We are working on it.”
I’ve never heard of either of these. I’ve got Signal and Element/Matrix. Why should I care about anything else?
I disliked signal app wise, and Matrix app was a buggy mess for me and the 4 other people who tried to use it as well
SimpleX was easy to setup and has been for the most part stable for all of us.
Basically to answer your question, people like different things.
SimpleX isn’t perfect by any means but it seems to be developed at a somewhat decent pace with noticeable improvements being made.

Except for signal, matrix is also decentralized. I understand what you meant tho. I think matrix still stores user data on servers, but they could be encrypted. Others who know please correct me.
If you enable E2E the server only has basic metadata. You can easily host your own server too.

But everyone can host their own server?
Also because you can’t be sure with an open source application like matrix you should trust applications like those linked here that are either closed source or centralised?
Especially since it has.the crypto included by default makes me very sceptical of it.
Also why compare 2 tools that no-one heard of and is using and not add stuff like signal or matrix to the comparison? Probably since it would’ve let those 2 look worse?

No offense, but saying this almost completely disqualifies you from having this conversation about private messengers.
It’s all open source you can verify that and it your worried about that run your own server and fully block matrix.org
