I just catched myself looking at reddit again.
To remind myself not to use reddit in the next few days (or never again if I succeed) I added it to my uBlock filter list. Additionally I deleted all reddit apps from my phone.
What’s your strategy on how to avoid reddit?
I put the Jerboa app icon where Baconreader had been on my phone. I kept opening it by reflex. This seems to be working.
This is the way.
Pretty much! I still haven’t even deleted Boost, but the icon has been replaced and I’ve already all but forgotten about it.
Me too. Sorry Boost, I will miss you.
I deleted my account
Ive been here a few days the content is already a lot. Sub to communities. Start a community. Get to commenting, posting or even lurking! Be the change @havilland@lemmy.ml !
In /etc/hosts:
127.0.0.1 reddit.com 127.0.0.1 www.reddit.com 127.0.0.1 old.reddit.com
Make it the pornhub IP
The ol switcheroo
Hmmm will this work on my work laptop too?
In school, the first thing I did on my Arch Linux Laptop is to put google.com to the pornhub ip. Don’t know why it should not work on any device.
Once Apollo is gone for good, I’ll delete the app and that’ll be it. Reddit has too much useful info for me to block it entirely similar to Twitter. But also like Twitter, once the app is gone from my phone my usage pretty much drops to zero. I’ve already replaced Apollo with Mlem on my homepage, but I’m leaving Apollo installed until the end.
Same. Keeping it installed until curtains, and will place Mlem in its place afterwards. I’ll use Reddit on desktop but only after I nuke my account.
If we could implement reddit scrapers (I think stealth for reddit is one of them), it might help us to acess reddit without using the shitty app or even an account. Scrapers aren’t exactly great if you want to post stuff on reddit, not that you would want to…
Paused rif and moved Jerboa to the spot where it normally is on my launcher
I uninstalled RIF this morning. I saw when I rated it on the play store saying that I loved using the app for reddit that I had recently started using… September 2011… Geeeeez. The feels.
rif and Relay were the two I used depending on how I was feeling that day. Excellent apps. Paid for both and I’ll be sad to see them go.
Agreed. RIF hands down and several times over was my most used app of all time. It will be missed.
That’s… why I’m here.
A simple low impact one I came up with is moving the Jerboa app icon to where the reddit one used to be and moving the reddit one to the end of the list, so my muscle memory reddit log on takes me here instead.
Literally did the same.
Same here as well. I uninstalled rif and replaced its icon with Jerboa. I don’t even notice the difference until the screen loads 😄
I added
reddit.com
to my uBlock Origin blocklist!I’ve set a privacy redirect from Reddit to https://libreddit.pufe.org. Now I can’t log in, but if people send me links then I can see what they sent. If I want to comment on things, I’ll come to Lemmy.
I logged in to Reddit this morning for perhaps the last time, to extract my list of subreddit subscriptions. While I was there I noticed I had a bunch of “Reddit Coins”, didn’t even know that was a thing. Missed opportunity for “Creddits” IMO.
Thanks for the reminder. I need to get my subscription list. I like the redirect idea too.
i use libredirect
I use libredirect’s firefox extention
Uninstalled Apollo (Christian plz forgive me). Deleted my account.
I think they would understand
Don’t worry, he feels just as bad as you for all of the evil Reddit has done to all of us.
I uninstalled Sync for Reddit on my Android phone.
I’m going to backup the content I created over the years and fry my account in the afternoon.
The fact that I’m digging lemmy is helping. Feels new and adventurous.
Reddit has a ton of useful knowledge on it, why would I avoid it? It is not just a platform to doomscroll on… As a social media platform it’s as good as dead for me, but it is still a hyper forum with many worthwhile communities.
why would I avoid it?
To show your support to the blackout while it lasts?
It’s a bit like going to work despite the strike.
Oh I thought OP talked about avoiding reddit in general. I have already visited it at least 3 times today looking for a solution to my laptop’s inability to connect to the internet :P I haven’t thought of avoiding it to send a message, I guess I will simply turn of the computer. I have already deleted Boost for reddit so I will simply not visit it on my phone…
While reddit is used for troubleshooting, I’ve never encountered a solution to a issue that’s not available on other sites aswell. So I don’t see myself needing to use reddit even for the useful information it provided.
