My first foray was a bit confusing because I initially joined on sh.itjust.works but tried to browse a community on beehaw, not knowing about the defederation, which isn’t too obvious for a newcomer.
They would show for others on your instance, but not for people on other instances, so each instance will have a separate downvote counter.
