The company would have 20 days to comply with Brazil’s antitrust legislation, otherwise it would be fined more than $40,000 a day.

Apple would rather pay the $14.6 to $14.64 million per year.

This is a great way to get Apple to pull manufacturing out of Brazil.

Doubt Brazil would do it but how awesome would it be if they nationalized the factory and just made iPhones themselves and said f u to apples copyrights and what not.

That’s the fast lane to having every company that values their IP exiting Brazil. Apple would roll their certificates and quit signing whatever Brazil was building with and Brazil’s economy would be way worse off for nothing.

Not if you nationalize all of them before they can leave 😤

Wasn’t the Digital Markets Act in the EU supposed to force the same? Did they implement it in the EU already?

The article discusses that. This is bringing the EUs approach to Brazil

I see that, but since I do not use iOS devices, I was curious whether the changes were already implemented in the EU.

In pretty much the most malicious compliance way possible, but yes. https://rileytestut.com/blog/2024/04/17/introducing-altstore-pal/

50 cents per installation of an alternative app store is very malicious indeed. It feels like they don’t want anyone to use that feature…

Brazil have his own version of the GDPR, is based on the the EU version with the necessary adaptation on Brazil legal parameters.

Some articles even say the fine can be charged over a percentage of the profit.
