  • It was the company’s official stance

    The CEO is a big enough douche that I’ll not migrate to them.

    It was a stunt, by an idiot to try to gain favor with trump. He was probably trying for a cabinet position in his tech bro circle. If it’s his intent, and he owns majority share, it’s their intent.

    If he doesn’t own a majority share, they’re all complicit

    When PR rolled in to wash out the stain, he just ran is mouth about not being political, even though he was literally just political.

    As far as the company goes, they outed an Activist, so they’re not privacy first. They’ll sell you up the river in a second if someone with any power or money asks.

    They’re private enough not to sell your data/eyes like google/microsoft (for now). I suspect if sony starts going after torrenters in this new world order we’ve got brewing, they wouldn’t hesitate to out you.

  • Telegram and Facebook share the fact that they’ve got lots of content and communities built around them.

    I use telegram for my home automation stuff because it’s free, the web hooks are super quick, and it supports image upload

    But all my family chatter happens on signal.

    The best way you can convince somebody not to put their entire life on telegram or Facebook is to tell them that advertisers are reading their conversations and giving them ads based on what they talk about people feel that spooky as shit

  • ACLs are not a bad as they look.

    Get your nextcloud instance hooked into tailscale

    You just need a sample file

    Group for admins, add yourself

    Tag owner for internal is admins Tag owner for nextcloud is admins

    Action accept, src admin, dst *:*

    Action accept, src nextcloud, dst nextcloud *.

    Then tag your nextcloud ts connection as nextcloud in the webadmin

    Tag all your other clients admin in the webadmin

    Note: you can’t just paste what I put here you need to find a viable template and then follow along. I’m on a mobile device where I would give you something more finalized

    Edit: tag your fam client as nextcloud

    Something like this:
    I stripped down one of my configs, I took out SSH, I don’t think it requires it

    {
    	"groups": {
    		"group:admins": [
    			"bob@bob.com",
    		],
    	},

    	"tagOwners": {
    		"tag:admin":    ["group:admins"],
    		"tag:nextcloud": ["group:admins"],
    	},

    	"acls": [

    		{
    			"action": "accept",
    			"src":    ["tag:admin"],
    			"dst":    ["*:*"],
    		},

    		{
    			"action": "accept",
    			"src":    ["tag:nextcloud"],
    			"dst":    ["tag:nextcloud:*", "autogroup:internet:*"],
    		},

    	],

    }

  • Canada and the US have rising tensions due to Donald Trump’s threats of tariffs and anexation, leading to the unusual booing of the US anthem at a recent NBA game in Toronto. Trump’s provocative remarks about Canada potentially becoming the 51st state, although unrealistic, have angered Canadians and created political complications.

    Canada has significant global trade and political views, they’re proud of their identity, strong social democratic values and a distinct cultural and political separation from the US. The idea of Canada becoming part of the US is just not feasible legally, politically, or practically, and there is no genuine support for such a notion within Canada.

    Canadian elections are coming and they’re crapping themseves. Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, previously leading in the polls, now faces challenges due to the shift in focus towards how Canada will handle the US threats. Because this is all crazy AF, the Liberal Party now has an advantage, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and his likely successor, Mark Carney.

    The Conservative Party has to condemning the US Right while defending Canada’s autonomy, complicating their political strategy. They had recent strong polling, the election is no longer a straightforward win for the Conservatives, and Trump’s actions may ironically benefit the Liberals, potentially granting them another term in office.

  • Ignoring the security aspect of it Bitwarden is responsible for hosting a fault tolerant, highly available web app.

    They have redundant networking, redundant servers, load balancers, redundant databases.

    While you could host this yourself to these tolerances it’s work and it’s not free.

    If you’re using your password manager to the fullest you have a different password for every resource out there. It’s more than a minor inconvenience if you get locked out of your passwords.

    Their service is dirt cheap and it’s absolutely worth every penny.
